Chilean Copper Council: Chile's copper output in January-July increased by 10.8% year-on-year

Santiago, September 11 news, the Chilean Copper Council (Cochilco) said on Tuesday that Chile's copper output in January-July this year reached 3.31 million tons, an increase of 10.8% over the same period last year.

Chile produced 481,700 tons of copper in July, an increase of 2.9% from July 2017, boosted by increased production of large private mines in the world's largest copper producer.

Compared with last year, the production in January-July was lower than last year, as the world's largest copper mine, BHP Billiton's Escondida copper mine, went on strike last year.

According to Cochilco, the Escondida copper mine increased its output by 85.2% from January to July. Anglo American and Glencore's Collahuasi mine increased production by 6% to 305,300 tons.

The Collahuasi mine is the second largest copper mine in Chile by production.

Chile's state-owned copper company Codelco's production in July-July increased 0.8% year-on-year to 1.02 million tons.
